Re: WNBA All Star

Re: WNBA All Star
Vote: San Antonio fans stuffing "The Stars at the Sun" ballot
Posted by Jayda Evans
The WNBA released early returns for its "WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun" balloting and San Antonio seems to be escaping the summer heat by hanging out inside to vote its players to the game.
Five Silver Stars players are leading early returns, headed by C Michelle Snow (49,029) and reserve Jayne Appel (48,746). Teammates Becky Hammon (42,720), F Sophia Young (36,549), and C Ruth Riley (35,612) follow. Storm PG Sue Bird (30,384) is the first player not in a Texas uniform, rounding out the top-10 with Indiana F Tamika Catchings (24,486); Los Angeles F Candace Parker (22,103), and Phoenix G Diana Taurasi (21,298).
The numbers are slight skewed, however. One, it's early, and two, the top-10 WNBA players will face Team USA in the game. So, once those national team players are plucked from the lineup, it's the remainder who represent the WNBA "All-Stars" with the coaches rounding out any missing holes.
This is an opportunity for players like Storm F Camille Little (11,659) or Washington F Monique Currie (3,237) to get recognition for their strong seasons in the shadow of bigger stars. Guess their fans will have to get to work like San Antonio.
Online voting ends June 21. The game is July 10 at Mohegan Sun Arena and will be aired on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. PST.
Here's the full returns release as provided by the WNBA:

NEW YORK - Three members of the Seattle Storm finished in the top 10 in final returns of the 2010 “WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun” Balloting presented by T-Mobile USA, the WNBA announced today. Storm guard Sue Bird led all players with 127,490 votes, while teammates Swin Cash (85,236, 5th) and Lauren Jackson (80,392, 6th) also finished among the top 10 and will play in The Stars at the Sun game.
Fans worldwide had the opportunity to select their favorite players by voting in person at WNBA arenas, the NBA Store and NBA Nation presented by T-Mobile and Kia Motors and WNBA.com. The 10 players who received the most votes are guaranteed a position on the team rosters. Unlike previous years, the players selected by fans will not necessarily be starters.
Jackson
WNBA vs. USA Basketball: The Stars at the Sun will showcase the world’s best female basketball players under one roof when the WNBA’s top talent faces the USA Basketball Women’s National Team at Mohegan Sun Arena on July 10. As members of the USA National Team Pool, Bird and Cash will play for USA Basketball, while Jackson will lead the team of WNBA stars. Bird, Cash and Jackson were voted starters for the Western Conference in last year's All-Star Game, which took a traditional East vs. West format. Cash was MVP of the game, also held at Mohegan Sun.
San Antonio guard Becky Hammon (116,391) finishing second in balloting, and will be joined by three of her teammates - forward Sophia Young (65,974) and centers Jayne Appel (69,316) and Michelle Snow (67,906). The other WNBA favorites voted to the game were Indiana’s Tamika Catchings (100,248), Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi (93,649) and Los Angeles’ Candace Parker (78,624).

Re: WNBA All Star
